Parents and guardians of young basketball enthusiasts, it’s time to lace up those sneakers and get ready for some court action! The Cordell Blue Devil Basketball Camp is just around the corner, offering an exciting opportunity for students in grades 2nd through 6th to sharpen their basketball skills and learn from the best.
Coach Love, the head coach of the Cordell girls basketball team, will lead the girl participants in the Cordell Blue Devil Basketball Camp. Coach Megan Brown and non-softball high school basketball players will assist him. On the boys’ side, Coach Blankenship, the head coach of the Cordell boys basketball team, will be in charge, supported by high school basketball players not involved in football. Together, they aim to provide a comprehensive and engaging experience for all the camp’s young athletes, ensuring each athlete receives focused training and guidance. Participants should come to the basketball camp wearing athletic attire and athletic shoes and bring a good attitude.
Why Join? This camp is more than just an introduction to the game; it’s a chance for young athletes to build a strong foundation in basketball fundamentals. Under the guidance of Cordell’s head basketball coaches, participants will dive into the essential skills of dribbling, passing, and ball handling, two styles of shooting forms, and the specific drills and concepts that are key focus in the 7th through 12th-grade basketball program.
“I have three levels to work at in all categories of skill building. I will find a way to put campers in a position to have fun and be successful,” said Blankenship.
“I plan to organize our players by age with a high school player as a team leader, and we will go through similar drills but broken down more for younger players,” said Love.
Whether your child is new to basketball or looking to refine their skills, this camp will provide them with the tools and confidence to excel.

“Basketball is a game that, with hard work, you can see the skill development. With encouragement and praise, I believe that the campers can find a niche that they are good at and can show off at camp competitions,” said Blankenship.
“We plan to be encouraging to young players and future Blue Devil basketball members. Our players are excited and prepared to help teach these athletes, and I think that will be contagious with our campers,” said Love.
This camp is a fantastic opportunity for your child to learn from experienced coaches and athletes, make new friends, and develop a love for the game in a fun and supportive environment.
“I hope that the campers will feel like they know me. I want them to feel like they are part of the Blue Devil basketball family. When they walk away from camp, they will want to play recreational basketball leagues, and when it’s time, they will shine for their school teams,” said Blankenship.
“I would like these players to take away an excitement and love for the game and knowledge to apply their newfound skills at home or with their friends/family,” expressed Love.
