This past weekend, my husband and I embraced the essence of a staycation, opting to stay close to home and discover the hidden gems our town has to offer. With a day filled with shopping, delectable food, and local attractions, Cordell proved that you don’t have to venture far to have a memorable and fulfilling weekend.
The day began on a delicious note as locals headed to Bean & Ladle, a beloved breakfast spot known for its mouthwatering dishes. The breakfast bowl and breakfast burrito left taste buds tingling and bellies satisfied, providing the ideal fuel for a day of exploration.
After a quick return home to tackle some house projects, an enticing Facebook post caught our attention. Cordell’s ACE Hardware was hosting a barbecue and sales event, instantly piquing our curiosity. Eager to support local businesses and enjoy some savory treats, we promptly made our way to the hardware store. The aroma of grilled delights filled the air as customers perused the sales, discovering handy tools and home improvement essentials.
With the day still young and a spirit of adventure in the air, we decided to explore one of the new shops in town—Fowler Variety Shop. It’s a stop shop with a wide range of merchandise and products, catering to the diverse needs and preferences of customers. It is a treasure trove of options, where you can find an assortment of items under a single roof.
Next door, Mikes Meat beckoned with its promise of high-quality cuts and ingredients for a delicious homemade dinner. Selecting the finest ingredients, they envisioned a mouthwatering meat to be enjoyed later in the comfort of our own home.
But the surprises didn’t end there. As we strolled through town, J & D’s Bargains caught their eye, offering a treasure trove of unique finds at irresistible prices. Meanwhile, the Main Street Flea Market presented an opportunity to support local flower grower and odds and ends things.
Before wrapping up our shopping spree, we made a stop at Tractor Supply to ensure our furry friend had an ample supply of dog food. Cordell’s range of local businesses truly cater to every need, making it a convenient and self-sustaining community.
Just as we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we stumbled upon Horn Family Farm & Boutique, enticed by its welcoming atmosphere and enticing sales. From aromatic candles to eyebrow waxing services, the boutique offered a chance to indulge in some self-care while supporting a local establishment.
As the day drew to a close, we reflected on our Cordell staycation experience, appreciating the diversity and charm our town had to offer. While the option of watching “The Little Mermaid” at Washita Theater tempted us, we opted for a relaxing evening at home, basking in the satisfaction of a day well spent.
Cordell, located in the heart of Oklahoma, demonstrated that sometimes the greatest adventures are right on our doorstep. With its array of local businesses, delectable dining options, and hidden treasures, this town provides an idyllic setting for a staycation experience that rivals any far-flung destination. Cordell residents can take pride in their community, a place where the spirit of exploration and support for local establishments flourish, creating a truly remarkable staycation destination.
