I’m excited to join the Cordell Beacon as their new reporter, and while I have yet to get acquainted with the people of Cordell, I thought now would be a good time for you to get to know me.
I grew up here in Oklahoma in a small town up north called Ringwood, and though Cordell is a bit bigger, I still get the same at-home feeling here in town.
I chose to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University to try and stay as close to that small-town life as I could.
While there, I studied mass communication, and I got my first taste for reporting by working for the university newspaper.
Most recently I covered the towns of Watonga and Geary for the Watonga Republican as well as some time reporting on the town of Hinton for the Hinton Record.
While I’ll miss those towns dearly, I’m looking forward to getting to know the people of Cordell and seeing what the community has to offer.
With my background in video, I hope to start incorporating video segments to some of our news stories every month for readers to also enjoy.
I look forward to working alongside Heather Flores, Charla Ingram, and Flora Walters as we work to keep the residents of Cordell informed on the news this town has to offer.
I learned a lot from former reporter and editor Thomas R. Martinez. I’ll have big shoes to fill, but I promise I’ll grow into them.
I may not know all there is to know about the town, but I’m excited to be reporting for Cordell. If you have anything you think I should know then I welcome you to reach out to me at reporter@cordellbeacon. com so that I can get to work reporting on it.
