Washita Chapter NSDAR monthly meeting report

September 8, 2025 the Washita Chapter held the first meeting of their new year at the Café Clinton. The meeting was opened with the Vice-Regent Marci Grant leading the NSDAR opening ritual, assisting her was the Chaplain, Robetha Fariss. Various members led the group in The Pledge of Allegiance, The American’s Creed, The Preamble to the Constitution and the Salute to the Oklahoma Flag.

Karen White and Jenny Guajardo, prospective members, were introduced by Ellena Womack.

Honorary State Regent, Nancy Lisle, gave the President General’s message that highlighted the 134th Continental Congress , and the new theme leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026 “Illuminate Our Legacy.”

Roberta Diggs gave a report on the theme for the National Defense Night at Congress that was “Patriotism”.

A thank you note was read from Dr. Joanna Hibler thanking the group for her nomination for the Women in American History award and the ceremony that was held in her honor at the SWOSU Library.

The program was given by Morgan Wells, who is the Director at the Metcalfe Museum that is located near Durham, OK. She also invited the group to the Museum to visit and learn more about Augusta Metcalfe’s life and her art.

Committee reports were given.

The meeting was close with the group reciting The Daughter’s Pledge.

Those attending were: Roberta Diggs, Luanne Eisler, Robetha Farris, Marci Grant, Kathryn Harrison, Honorary State Regent Nancy Lisle, April Miller, Virginia Reid, Linda Stewart, Betty Todd, Vera Williamson, Ellena Womack . Guests were Karen Whie, Jenny Guajardo and the speaker Morgan Wells. Calling the meeting to order was the Regent, Kay Hagerman, of the Washita Chapter NSDAR on October 13, 2025 at the Café Clinton, assisting was the Chaplain Robetha Fariss. The group participated in The Pledge of Allegiance, The American’s Creed, The Preamble to the Constitution, The Salute to the Oklahoma Flag and the singing of a patriotic song.

The Great Plains District Director Susan Denard was recognized and Tina Lovelace , a prospective member, was introduced, also Honorary State Regent Nancy Lisle was recognized.

The program was Jan Beattie of the Cordelia Steen DAR Chapter of Edmond on Grave Dosing. She also told of the Oklahoma Cemetery Directory that might be of interest to those trying to locate the final resting places of the Oklahoma residents.

The President General’s message encouraged members to focus on their service in the annal Day of Service.

Recognition of the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary on October 13 and commemorates the founding o the Continental Navy in 1775.

The Oath of Membership was administered to Washita chapter’s newest member, Pamela Ballew. She was pinned with a DAR pin and welcomed into the Chapter.

Baskets were delivered to Officials of the city of Clinton, thanking them for their support of the Washita Chapter.

Committee Reports were given.

Commemorative report by Doris Minor on facts about the 140th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty that will by held in 2026. Being made of copper the thickness of two pennies, requiring 30 million copper pennies. Underneath her pedestal are the remains of Fort Wood, which had been built to protect New York Harbor during the War of 1812 in the event of a British invasion.

The meeting was closed with the reading of the Daughter’s Pledge.
