The Cordell Lady Blue Devils made school history on Tuesday, May 5, securing the program’s first-ever Class 2A Girls Golf State Championship at Muskogee Country Club.
Cordell finished with a two-day team score of 735, defeating runner-up Turner by 31 strokes to claim the school’s first athletic state championship since 2018.
Freshman Mylee Brunker led the Lady Blue Devils with an impressive runner-up finish, shooting a two-day total of 154. Junior MacKinlee Brunker placed third overall with a 161, while senior Birdie Brown wrapped up her high school career with a seventh-place finish at 168.
“What began as a talented group of golfers turned into a team that built a legacy through toughness, chemistry, and unforgettable performances on the biggest stage,” said Head Coach JJ Williams.
Cordell entered the final round with a 27-stroke lead, but Turner made an early push before the Lady Blue Devils regained control and extended their lead to secure the championship.
“My girls locked in and started having fun,” Williams said. “Once they relaxed, they started hitting the ball well and doing the little things we talked about.”
Brown later competed in a three-hole playoff against Corn Bible Academy’s Bentli Whitson for an automatic All-State spot, narrowly missing the berth in tough weather conditions. She remains eligible for an at-large All-State selection.
The Lady Blue Devils also earned Academic State Champion honors with a perfect 4.0 GPA, while the Cordell boys golf team received the OSSAA Distinguished Academic Achievement Award.
The championship season marked one of the most successful in Cordell girls’ golf history.
