Dill Work and Play Club Meeting News

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met October 14 in the home of Wilma Gathright, in Elk City.

Jane Shull called the meeting to order with a welcome and led the Flag Salute. Anna Pricket led the group singing Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Emma Bingham gave the Thought for the Day by having each member stating “What are you thankful for?” Emma called roll with each answering with Name something you use Made in Oklahoma, and 7 members were present. Emma read the minutes from the last meeting and we noticed Emma Bingham also won a Grand Champion ribbon at the County Fair which made 4 Grands and with correction the minutes were approved.

Anna gave a Treasures Report and collected dues for 2026. Lowayne Piercey gave a report on the OHCE County Cookbooks. The cookbooks are all finished and Lowayne handed out books for the club to sell. The money for cookbooks will go to each club for projects and expenses. We will be selling the books for $10 and if anyone would like a cookbook just let any Washita County club member know. Dill Work and Play members gave recipes and helped put the books together along with the other two clubs. It is a nice book.

Jane gave a report on the sewing projects. OHCE and friends met October 1 and 2 to make 40 toiletry bags for the Washita County Foster Children, each Club furnished fillings for the bag. Dill Work and Play furnished comb and brush. The personal bag will be placed into a backpack or duffel bag and given to the children for Christmas. Jane, Anna and Lowayne worked both days. After the bags were finished the second day and the group put together 3 quilts for Cordell 5th graders. We will have another sewing day to finish the backing in the future. The classes will have a drawing at some point and 3 lucky students will have a memory of the 5th grade days at Cordell. Each class member wrote a memory or thought and it was incorporated with quilt squares of fun colorful material. Modern Homemakers donated liquid soap and deodorant and Willing Workers gave toothbrushes and toothpaste. Both clubs had workers of the sewing days. Washita County received a CE-FCS Ambassador Grant to help provide the duffel bags and other expenses.

Jane gave some news from the County Newsletter. The Washita County OHCE Silent Auction at the county fair made about $500 and we thank everyone donating and buying. We use the money to do projects and expenses of the county actives. Tips were given on how to deal with inflation. The Barn Quilt Workshop was discussed and will be November 13, 9:30 to 3:00 and cost $25.

We were invited by Modern Homemakers to a Bunco party September 29, at the Fair Ground, at 5:30 for supper, fellowship and fun. Lowayne attended, and had fun. They had a good group attend.

Lowayne gave a report on the 4-H which will be having the Bean Supper and Carnival November 4th: Meal from 5-7 and carnival 6-7, cost $5.00, some members bought tickets. Also report on the 2026 District meeting which was held in September. The meeting will still be held at Qt Mt but meal will be catered due to problems at the Lodge. Workshops and the program are being planned.

Samaritan Purse was discussed, we will participate and Jane will take our boxes after our November meeting. Those wishing to make a box will bring it ready next meeting.

Wilma gave the lesson Made In Oklahoma. There are many wonderful products and they continue to grow.

Dill Work and Play held election of officers for 2026. Wilma made the motion to elect the same officers; it was second and passed.

Wilma gave a crocheted neck item as door prize and it was won by Emma. For Cultural Art Wilma showed a baby blanket she made for a new great grandson, (beautiful blue) and 2 afghans she had made and several hot pads and dish cloths. She gave hot pads and dish cloths to members.

Wilma served delicious meal with some help from her daughters Sue Huddleston and Anita Clayton to Emma Bingham, Jane Shull, Anna Prickett and Lowayne Piercey. The meeting was dismissed with the Lords Prayer.

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met for November regular meeting December 16 2025. The meeting was held in the home of Jane Shull beginning at 1:30. The meeting was held so late because of weather, doctor appointments, and illness. The meeting was called to order by Jane and the Flag Salute was led by Jane and Anna led an opening prayer.

Emma Bingham presented the minutes from the October meeting and members gave an answer “Something you are thankful for.” 7 members and 1 guest were present. We called Louan Alford, our other member, and all said Merry Christmas and sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Lowayne Piercey gave a report on the 4-H Bean Supper and Carnival. We were down some this year but not a bad crowd and fun was had by all which attended. It still is the best fundraiser we could have. Thank you to all those attending and helping.

Jane showed for cultural arts, a Children Book she had written at the age of between 10 and 12. It was the cutest story about herself as a child, The Best Christmas Ever, and she had illustrated the story. We all encouraged her to have it published.

Lowayne gave a report on the Samaritan’s Purse project. We sent 8 Christmas Boxes from Dill Work and Play OHCE.

The meeting was dismissed and we started the December meeting. Jane Shull called the December meeting to order and Anna Pricket led a prayer for the meeting and to begin lunch. To begin our lunch Jane called our attention to the green depression glassware from her Great Aunt Nina and Polish pottery all of different winter scenes, snow men, candles, snowflakes and colorful designs. She also told us the table cloth on the table was from Czechoslovakia. She had bought it on one of her trips to Europe. This served as our December Cultural Art.

Lowayne Piercey gave a report on the OHCE County Council held December 8 at 2pm in the OSU Conference room in Cordell. Welcome and call the business meeting to order was opened by Lowayne. The Flag Salute led and Though of the Day was given by Brenda Bonham. Paula Stafford called roll and read the minutes from the last council meeting and they were approved. The business meeting was led by Lowayne Piercey and Kristy Spalding. Kristy reported the OSU with the help of volunteers will present a Reality Check program to the Canute School Feb 25 2026, starting at 8:00 am. Several of the OHCE members offered to assist. It is a program to teach the students to manage a checkbook, balance a life style in the budget they draw, and in general manage your spending in regular life. February 12 will be the first Leaders Lesson of 2026 held in Lawton. A snow day is set for February 19. The District Meeting report was given. A district planning meeting was held and Jane Shull attended from Dill Work and Play. OHCE.

Washita County member signed up to serve and we will be in charge of goody bags, Bingo, speaker gifts, and more will be planned at the next planning meeting. Tooth Pillows sewing workshop was pIanned for March 24 and if needed March 25 from 9 to 3. Giving the pillows to Washita children is planned for April 8th and 9th or April 21st and 22nd to be set when checked with the schools. The meeting was dismissed and everyone enjoyed delicious snacks funished and Kristy and each OHCE group. Emma Bingham and Lowayne Piercey attended.

Emma requested Jane to show our guest and all members her manger. Jane’s Daddy, made her a manger out of old barn wood and Jane has a Nativity scene out for Christmas. Emma gave devotion of Jesus birth and what Christmas is about for Thought for the Day. Emma called roll with “Something you remember about Christmas.

Anna gave a lesson about Al. She fell at her home and her phone called the Sheriff and informed them she needed an ambulance. They called and ask if she needed help. She told them no she just needed to clean up the blood. Her whole face turned black and blue but she was not majorly hurt. She then told of when her phone called 911 for her and it said her pants were too tight and she needed help. She did have her phone in her pocket, but her pants were not too tight. Who knows maybe the way she was standing the phone thought it was tight. At any rate her phone is there to help.

We had a wonderful visit, exchanged gifts and dismissed with the lord’s Prayer. Anita gave everyone a loaf of Banana Nut Bread and Sue gave everyone a cookie cake. We also exchanged wonderful gifts.
