Cordell is dusting the town with Christmas magic once again as Christmas on the Square returns this Thursday evening, December 7th, bringing with it the warm glow and nostalgic charm of this year’s theme, A Cozy Vintage Christmas.
From twinkling lights to classic holiday cheer, downtown Cordell will transform into a scene reminiscent of an old-fashioned Christmas card.
Festivities begin at 5 p.m., and families will want to stop by the Washita Theater early, where a fun surprise awaits, something sure to “cast Christmas cheer for all to hear” and kick off the evening with a bit of extra sparkle. Once the parade arrives and Santa Claus lights the town Christmas tree, he will head inside the theater to meet with children and take photos. Pictures are $5 each and will be photographed by Erin Dudgeon.
One of the evening’s sweeter attractions is The Great Cordell Bake Off, a festive baking contest held inside the Washita Theatre. Bakers of all ages are invited to bring their best holiday creations. Registration will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., and winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m. The contest is free to enter, and there will be a first-place winner in each of the following categories: candies, cookies, cakes, and pies. All entries must include a Christmas theme and a recipe card. Judging will be conducted by FCCLA students from Cordell Schools.
Following the parade, the magic continues with free horse-drawn carriage rides around the Square. Thanks to Kristi Regier, Agent with Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance, families can enjoy a cozy ride through the holiday festivities. Wine Glass Draft Horses will bring their beautiful team to town to help spread the Christmas spirit.
Children will also enjoy additional activities this year, such as jump houses courtesy of Jen’s Inflatables, giving kids plenty of opportunities to play while the festivities continue.
With its mix of tradition, community, and holiday charm, Cordell’s Christmas on the Square promises an evening filled with joy, wonder, and memories that will last throughout the season. Families are encouraged to bundle up, gather together, and experience the magic of a truly cozy vintage Christmas.
