The Cordell Lady Blue Devils traveled down to Cache on Thursday to play in the Wichita Mountain Classic. The tournament was played on Thursday and Saturday. On Thursday, the Lady Blue Devils won a tight contest with the Velma Alma Lady Comets. It came down to the wire, but we won 7-6. We were down 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Rylee Kelly got a hit and scored twice to win. After we gave up two runs in the top of the first, we jumped into the lead in the bottom of the same inning when Tralynn Moss tripled, scoring two runs, and Emma Holman singled, scoring one run. Emma then singled to center field, which scored a run and helped tie the game at four in the bottom of the third. McKinley Moore walked, which helped us tie the game at five in the bottom of the fourth. Tralyn Moss hit the ball well. She went 2-for-3 on the day. Natalie Hewitt, Moss, Rylee Larsen, and Holman each collected two hits for us. On Saturday, our bats came alive, and we beat Anadarko for the second time this season, 13-4. We got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Tralynn Moss hit an inside-the-park home run, which scored three runs, Lakyn Rose doubled, scoring one run, and Natalie Hewitt hit, which scored one run. In the second inning, we extended the lead to 8-1. Zan Dudgeon hit a solo inside-the-park home run, Emma Holman doubled, scoring one run, and Rose singled, scoring one run. We had 12 hits in the game. Dudgeon, Holman, Rasmussen, and Rose each collected two hits. Moss and Holman each drove in three runs. Ella led the team with three walks. Our second game of the day was against a tough Rush Springs squad. We hit well, but just came up short at the end, 5-4. Rylee, Zan, Lakyn, and McKinley all hit well and scored for us. Lakyn led the team with three hits, and McKinley had 2. We ended up playing Cache JV for 3rd Place in the tournament. We had another good game, hitting the ball. We ended up winning 11-4. We tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Tralynn Moss and a groundout by Emma Holman. We jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second when Rylee Larsen got a hit and one run scored. Zan Dudgeon hit into a fielder’s choice, but three runs scored, and then she scored. Leadoff hitter Rylee Larsen led with two hits in three at-bats. Moss and Larsen each drove in three runs for us. We had a good tournament overall. Our hitting and fielding came together at the same time, and when that happens, we are a tough team! We will be playing in the Snyder tournament this weekend. Our season is already half over, but we’re getting better and better each game!
