Cordell Memorial Hospital Health Fair is back

After a long standstill due to COVID, the Cordell Memorial Hospital (CMH) Health Fair is back and healthier than ever!

This year’s health fair is beneficial and enjoyable for the whole family; taking place on March 31 through April 2. CMH is partnering with Western Oklahoma Wellness, part of the Oklahoma Foundation of Medical Quality, to bring quality information and resources for all things health as well as safety.

From 8:00 to 11:00 am on March 31 and on April 1, CMH will be offering free vaccines, antibody testing and prediabetic testing and screening using the HbA1c testa simple blood test that measures one’s average blood sugar levels over the past three months. It’s one of the more commonly used tests to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes.

“It’s important to detect early because prediabetes is one of the highest diseases that we have to watch for because it also contributes to [decreased] cardiac life as well as stroke,” said Melinda Laird CEO/CNO at CMH.

“This is a step towards helping prevent those in the future if we can start early in prevention, improve diet and start healthy habits.”

Life coaches will be available to share helpful ways to improve overall health and wellness throughout western Oklahoma as well as help calculate one’s body mass index (BMI), a measure of body fat based on height and weight.

Oklahoma Blood Institute will be at the Washita County Activity Center Friday, April 1, for blood donations.

The second part of the health fair is an opportunity for the kids throughout Washita County to participate in an interactive and educational experience. This will also take place at the Washita County Activity Center on April 1 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and continue on April 2 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

There will be a kids fun run, coloring and writing contest, cooking demonstration with fresh vegetables by Sunfinch Greenhouse from Rocky and so much more!

The Red Cross will be in attendance talking about the importance of smoke alarms along with weather preparedness as spring approaches.
