New school year, new faces. Change is hard.

There has been a lot of talk lately on social media as well as ‘over the fence’ chatter between folks about our Cordell school system.

First of all, I would like to say that our wonderful schools are one of the reasons I came to Cordell about seven years ago, and our wonderful schools are one of the reasons I stay.

There have been some incredibly talented educators and staff moving on over the last couple of years. Some have retired, some have taken jobs elsewhere, and some have left for other reasons. It is no doubt that it is disappointing to lose them.

Over the years we come to trust our school staff and learn their hearts toward our children. We often feel they are irreplaceable. Change is hard.

I have heard many people say “Our school system is being ruined” or “all the good teachers are leaving.” I feel like these kind of statements are horribly disrespectful to the amazing teachers and staff that remain.

We absolutely still have many, many wonderful teachers facing whatever turmoil life throws at them, putting a smile on their faces each day and fearlessly guiding our children as best they can. Again, change is hard.

I think we also need to keep in mind that little ears hear all, and a bad attitude towards our school system or its leaders will easily pass on to perhaps change their attitudes toward learning. We owe it to our children to equip them with the best possible tools each day. We all know the difference a positive attitude can make in our lives!

New coaches, new teachers, and new support personnel deserve a chance. Very few people become a legend on their first day of any given situation. Give it some time and let them show us what they are capable of doing.

Those who have left should receive our best wishes in their new endeavors. Saying goodbye is tough and scary. Those who stayed should be thanked from the bottom of our hearts. I thank you. My child thanks you.

Newcomers, welcome. Thank you for giving Cordell a chance. I think you will find that we are a small town with a huge heart. History has proven that people who live here know how to band together when times are tough. Neighbors help neighbors. There is a lot of tenacity and courage running through our family ties.

Change is hard, butlet’s send our children into a new school year with hope for a bright future.
