Letters to the Editor

I’m excited to report several things that were discussed and approved in city council last night, June 16. First, a transformational purchase of the CK (Kiwash) campus, including all buildings from 152 to 1/2 block N First and the administrative building on 1st and adjacent buildings, formerly the CK offices. Vicki Hagerman was instrumental in negotiating the purchase, for which no money was borrowed or encumbered by any agreement, and all this capital improvement was internally funded. Most know that CK has moved their Cordell offices to 4 miles E of town.

Also, the city council and I have agreed to open Adams Lake (Cordell Lake) located N of Dill City. Its bio-diverse ecosystem will have a soft opening for one-day, free to the public on Fri July 4. Due to a sponsored event by the city, no fishing license will be required according to our local game warden( s). Hours are under discussion for this trial event. Volunteers led by Dale Selman will continue massive improvements to trails, picnic areas, and tree trimming. Dale and a group of multiple nonpaid selfless volunteers continue to hone our pristine park for future uninterrupted use.

NOTE: the primary bridge into the lake will be closed to large vehicular traffic and access to the lake will be by foot only…Plans to replace the bridge are underway, but may take awhile. We are currently talking to our county officials via Commissioner David Gray, who is checking into possible access road grants for Adams.

In addition, the city council is monitoring the grant-related teardown of the S Market building and should be complete in appropriately a week. The pigeon scattering is being addressed with people who take care of these issues with a humane approach. Please do not take the pigeon issue into your own hands. We believe this will be successful, possibly over a longer period of time. Please be patient in this situation. By the way, the city is not paying for this issue, but we are well aware.
