Dill Work and Play OHCE Club News

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met July 8, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Mangum, Oklahoma, at 10:00 for the fall leader lessons, and the regular meeting. The meetings started with choice of hot drink and check in. The Flag Salute officially opened the meeting and classes started.

The first lesson was Cast Iron Skillets, presented by Carol Hart FCS Educator from Caddo County. Informative, with uses and instructions on care, use, and ideas using your Cast lorn Skillets.

Second lesson was One Dish Meals, presented by Kristy Spalding, FCS Educator from Washita County. Kristy gave a fun and creative lesson on one dish meals and presented a lesson leader recipe book and a book for each member. After the lesson the group broke into smaller groups and each prepared a portion of a one bowl meal, which served for lunch. The meal was a Burrito Bowl, Nachos, cookies, pecan pie, and a Black Berry Cobbler (made by Carol Hart in an iron skillet.)

Jane led the prayer and lunch was served. We convinced in to our July Dill Work and Play regular meeting. Jane Shull called the meeting to order. Emma Bingham called roll with members answering with, “Do you like one dish meals?” Emma presented the minutes from the June meeting. Emma gave the Thought of the Day. It was “To be a real Friend and care for each other.” We were asked to pray for the floods in Texas and New Mexico. Our Member Louan Alford received damage in Texas with water up to the porch and water is still a danger.

Reports were given on 4-H. Day Camp was held on Beef and a good group attended. A Day Camp was given on Dirt Babies, Minnie Pizzas using Croissant Rolls, and art work, Lowayne Piercey attended as a volunteer. A Day camp was presented at the Career Tech, at Burns Flat on How to make a homemade Pizza. The class was given by Alex Thomison the dietary teacher.

Lowayne attended as a volunteer. After demonstrations and recipes everyone made their own pizza.

Report on the beginning of planning for 2026 West Southwest District Meeting was given and plans are underway in a big scale. The meeting was held at Lucille’s in Clinton during lunch.

Jane and Lowayne attended. 4-H upcoming events are 4-H Leather, decorated Tee shirts and Gardening camp day July 17, at 1 to 3, and 4-H Jelly Canning camp day July 21, at 2 to 4.

There will be a Jelly caning workshop for OHCE members July 21, at 10:00pm till 12:00.

Jane shared a Cultural Art of a neckless featuring the Greek Goddess, of music which she purchased while visiting Greece.

Some of the upcoming dates of events we have going: August 12, 6pm board meeting Cordell Office, August 19, 6pm Area board meeting held at Qt Mountain, any Farm Bureau members interested in attending call the FB office in Cordell, September 23, 6pm Washita County Annual Board meeting, Bingo and Hotdog feed. Annual meeting and Resolutions given will be during the meeting and will be held at the Community Center in Cordell (Fair Grounds). Farm Bureau members and friends invited. November 7th, 8th, and 9th the State Meeting will be held in Oklahoma City.

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met August 5, 2025 for a Washita OHCE County Council meeting and a regular OHCE meeting, in the OSU Council room in Cordell. The Council meeting started at 2:00pm with a call to order by Lowayne Piercey and a welcome. Brenda Bonham led the Flag Salute and gave a Though of the Day. Brenda called roll and read the minutes in the absence of Becky Sander-Stewart. Jane Shull gave a treasurer’s report.

Business session was called to order and Kristy Spalding and Lowayne announced that Washita County OHCE had received the State Grant to do the backpack project for foster kids of Washita County. Several ideas were discussed and included how to put together and sew the project, plus other information. Sewing day was set for October 1st and 2nd 9 to 11:30 and 1 to 3:00. We will purchase a backpack and sew a necessity bag and purchase items to fill for each foster child. We are planning from 40 to 65 children and will get more information as closer to time. Dill Work and Play will provide brush and comb, Modern Homemakers will provide soap and deodorant, and Willing Workers will provide toothbrush and toothpaste. All clubs will bring material to make the necessity bag.

Washita County Fair was discussed. The fair entries time will be August 20, 3 to 6pm and August 21, 9 to 11am and judging will start at 1pm. OHCE members signed up for fair exhibit area work time for that Wednesday and Thursday. The fair will be open to the public Aug. 21 5pm to 9pm, Aug. 22 9am to 9pm, and Aug. 23 5pm to 7pm. OHCE will have a Silent Auction Thursday, August 21, beginning at 6pm and Friday, August 22 9am until 6:00pm and payout will be until 9:00. Friday August 23 Exhibit building opens and exhibits relace is 5pm to 7pm and premium payout is 6pm to 7pm. Information can be found In the Sentinel Leader and Cordell Beacon.

Additional plans were made for the District Meeting in March 13, 2026. A planning meeting was announced for September 23 and will be held at Quartz. Mountain over lunch, beginning at 11:00am. The 2026 District Meeting will be held at Quartz Mountain.

The Cordell 5th Grade Quilt project was discussed and update was given. The project will start in the fall when more information is available.

The Modern Homemakers invited the OHCE Members to attend a Bunco Party, September 29 at, the Cordell Activity Center, 5:30 to 8:30, and ask for a count by Sept. 19.

The meeting was dismissed and refreshments were served furnished by the clubs. There were 14 attending.

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met immediately after refreshments. Jane Shull called the meeting to order. Emma Bingham called roll with each present answering with, Name one thing you will be entering in the county fair and read the minutes from July meeting. Anna Prickett led the song She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain. lowayne Piercey read an Invention from OHCE Modern Homemakers for a party “Bunco Night”, September 29, 5:30 to 8:30 Cordell Activity Center with small meal and snacks provided.

Lowayne gave the 4-H report that the 4-H Awards Program will be held Monday August 11 at 6:00 at the Washita County Activity Center. The 4-H also had a day camp making Strawberry Jam which she attended.

The program was led by Lowayne, “Organization of Entries to County Fair”. All members signed up for entries and the Dill Work and Play plan to have a full program and work at the fair.

For Cultural Arts Jane showed a souvenir she purchased in Greece, and Wilma Gathright showed a picture from many years ago of Dill Work and Play picking up trash on HWY 152.
