Drivers going east through Cordell will get a great view of the mural recently completed on the former Farmers National Bank building. The Cordell Civic Club planned and paid for the mural.

Sales Tax Receipts Mostly Down In County

Sales tax collections in most Washita County communities fell last month, some of them significantly, while the amount going to the County was down by over $130,000. The only two communities which saw an increase in collections of Sales Tax were Colony (up $248.45) and Sentinel (up 769.26).

Clark Receives Award For Accident Free Drivcing

Foss Rural Mail Carrier Kimi Clark was recently honored by the United States Postal Service and the Burns Flat Post Office for 30 years of accidentfree driving. Clark has driven approximately a half million safe miles in her postal career.

Archaeological Team Revisits County Excavation Site

A team from the Oklahoma Archaeological Survey arrived at the farm of Kevin and Sherry Nightengale northwest of Cordell to continue work begun in 1984 regarding the discovery of a Wichita Indian village located there. The 1984 effort resulted in proof of the existence of the village, dating back to 1500 AD.

Girlfriend Charged With First Degree Murder

Still grieving over the 2014 death of his wife, Mike Beach apparently took to the Internet earlier this year to find companionship. That search led him to Kathryn Lynn Hicks, 44, the woman now charged in his death. On Monday, November 30, responding to a welfare check, Cordell Police officers entered the Beach residence at 421 South Orient in Cordell and found Beach dead in his bedroom.

Lamb Is New Lutheran Minister

Lutheran Partners of Western Oklahoma, a partnership of Peace Lutheran in Bessie, Trinity Lutheran in Clinton, and Grace Lutheran in Weatherford have announced the call of Jerry Lamb as minister. Lamb, originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, has served congregations in Syracuse, New York, southwest Minnesota, northwest Wisconsin, and Southwest Iowa.

Cordell Community Outreach Assists Young And Old

With donations from a number of area businesses and residents, the Cordell Community Outreach Association has made Christmas brighter for children at Head Start and residents of the Cordell Christian Home. In the Third Annual Silver Santa event, the Association provided a gift box filled with goodies for every Cordell Christian Home resident.

For the third year in a row, Cordell’s hospital was recognized recently as one of the state’s best places to work. The Oklahoman included Cordell Memorial Hospital (CMH) in its recently published list of Oklahoma’s Top Workplaces for 2015.
