Angels Ready For Adoption

Some say the names of angels are on the special tree located at the Cordell Police Department (105 West Main Street), but it just could be the people who adopt one of those little ones are the real angels. Every name on the tree represents a child connected to our community and in need of special help at this time of year.

Christmas In The Park Will Be Saturday

First, Thanksgiving. Then, Black Friday. And on Saturday, November 28? It is the Third Annual Cordell Christmas In The Park celebration, which will include the official lighting of the decorations in the park. Beginning at 3 p.m. in Cordell’s beautiful Lee Park, vendors will be set up and ready to help everyone with the perfect gift for that special someone.

Schools Call For Elections

Public school districts in Washita County have called for annual elections to be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2015. The filing period for the election we be Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., December 7 through 9.

The Cordell Police Department’s

Kendall Kliewer and Evan Thiessen were the first and second place winners in the Cordell Police Department’s (CPD) Halloween Costume Contest. Every trick or treater at the CPD had their picture taken and the pictures were then posted on the department’s Facebook page. The photo with the most “likes” won. In the photo above, Officer Steven Nail (far left) and Chief Daniel Allen are pictured with the young winners.

Students Turning Box Tops Into Dollars

Want to give a Christmas gift that doesn’t cost anything? You can help Cordell Elementary by giving them the box tops off some of the items you buy every week. Each box top you clip, save and give to the elementary school will earn ten cents for the school to spend as they see fit.

Clark Writes Book With Cordell Connection

Growing up in Cordell was the beginning point for “Roses for Mama,” a book written by former Cordell resident Janice Clark. “Readers will recognize many of the places I talk about in the book,” Clark said. “The grocery stores, courthouse, old Lincoln grade school building, Shorty’s, the Red Barn, and Edith’s Beauty Shop are all mentioned in the first part of the book.”

Veterans Will Receive Free Admission To First Play Off Game

United States Veterans will be admitted free of charge to first round football playoff games according to a statement released by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association (OSSAA). Larry Johnson, Cordell High School principal and athletic director, said a veteran and one guest will be admitted

Cordell School Board Calls For Annual Election

At their meeting on Monday, November 9, 2015, the Cordell Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution calling for the annual school election. The filing period for the February 9, 2016, election will be Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., December 7 through 9.

SWODA Coat Drive Continues

Temperatures have begun to fall and it won’t be long before Washita County area residents will need to wear winter coats. A number of individuals have donated new and gently-worn jackets and coats to the Team SWODA Annual Coat Drive.
