Washita County 4-H Welcomes New Extension Educator

Dana Church is the new 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator at the Washita County OSU Cooperative Extension. Church graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agricultural Communications and a minor in Horticulture.

Cordell Board Of Education Hires Personnel

At their meeting on Monday, May 9, 2016, the Cordell Board of Education met in Executive Session to consider the recommendations of Superintendent Brad Overton regarding the hiring of certified personnel, support personnel, summer school teachers, employees for summer repairs/labor and extra duty assignments. Approved certified personnel were: Mona Horn, Pre- Kindergarten; Deidra Ball.

Dr. Abernathy Receives Prestigious Award

He quietly works in his office, providing excellent 21st century medical care in a peaceful, well-equipped clinic in western Oklahoma. He volunteers as the Cordell High School football team physician, and has walked the sidelines with the players and coaches for 27 years.

Cordell High School

Cordell High School basketball player McKenna Morley recently signed a letter signaling her intention to play basketball for the Southwestern Christian University Lady Eagles. With Morley at the signing were her mother, Cindy, and sister, Morgan. Also at the signing were SCU Lady Eagle Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Mark Arthur, Cordell Head Basketball Coach Jana Rogers, and Cordell High School Principal and Athletic Director Larry Johnson.

Buffing Home Goes From Stark To Startling

It took several years, with work mostly being done by a crew of one, but the Bret Buffing home north and west of Cordell, has undergone a major transformation. In 2011, Rocky Greer began the 30-foot by 30-foot addition at the home, with the idea Bret would eventually fill it with exotic mounted animals from all over the world.

Council Delays Vote On Possible Property Purchase

Following a 33-minute Executive Session at their May 2, 2016, meeting, the Cordell City Council again postponed a vote on the purchase or appraisal of real property. The report following the Executive Session by Council representative Charles Sappington was that a vote would be postponed until after an Executive Session at the meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

CHS Band Receives “Outstanding Achievement Award” At State

The Cordell High School Band made its appearance at State Contest on April 18th at East Central University in Ada for the second year in a row. Cordell band has earned their way to State Contest in nine of the 13 years Steve and Amy Smith have been directors of the Cordell band program.
