Cordell High School seniors Caitlyn Welch, seated on the left, and Kylee Isbell recently signed Letters of Intent to be on the Track and Cross Country teams of the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors. Joining the young women at the signing ceremony were, standing from the left: Caitlyn’s parents Joel and Robin Welch, Cordell High School Athletic Director Larry Johnson, Cordell High School Track and Cross Country Coach Jana Rogers, Isbell’s grandmother Janie Bellah, great-grandmother Kay Osborne, and aunt Anna Feltman.

Cordell Students Accept Hunger Challenge

Four Cordell 4-H and FFA members took part in the FFA Hunger Challenge by donating an animal at the Oklahoma Youth Expo to the Backpack for Kids Program. Kelsey Dowdle, McKenna Wedel, Douglas Thomas, and Ryan Wedel of Cordell each donated a pig to the program.

Canute Man Dies In Florida Plane Crash

Former Canute businessman Jim Kos, 57, was killed along with one other man in a single engine airplane crash Saturday morning in central Florida. The other man, Dane Sheahen of Port Orange, Florida, was piloting the plane.

CKEC Names Youth Tour Winners

Hard work has paid off for four high school juniors as they make plans to tour the nation’s capital this summer. Amy Freeman of Corn Bible Academy, Skylar Goodwin of Cordell High School, Monica Jones of Boone-Apache High School, and Joshua Reed of Cordell High School took top honors in the CKenergy Electric Cooperative Youth Tour Contest.

Council Hears Concerns About Police Budget Cuts, Loss Of Dispatch

Much of the two-hour meeting of the Cordell City Council and related authorities on Monday, March 7, 2016, was spent in discussion, sometimes heated, between the public and Mayor Bob Plummer regarding proposed budget cuts to the Cordell Police Department.
