Fire Department Sales Tax Passes, Hospital Tax Fails

In an election that has included controversy, last-minute resolutions and a court order, Washita County voters passed only one of the sales tax elections on the June 24 ballot. Proposition One, a new 5/8 cent sales tax with some proceeds dedicated to Washita County fire and ambulance services, with the rest to go to the Washita County General Fund, passed by a wide margin

Cordell Memorial Hospital (CMH) is preparing to challenge in court the validity of the actions of the Washita County Commissioners when they voted to cancel the election on Proposition 2, the sales tax to support the hospital.

Cordell Council Delays Budget Vote

With the state mandated deadline looming for budgets to be approved, the Cordell City Council voted on Monday, June 16, 2014, to have a special meeting on Thursday, June 19, 2014, to finalize that procedure. The meeting is scheduled to begin a 6 p.m. in the Cordell Community Center.

Applewhite Signs Lease For Washita Theatre

Capping a series of negotiations that spanned several months, the City of Cordell and Jerry Applewhite have signed an agreement for operation of the Washita Theatre. Cordell City Council members, in their capacity as members of the Cordell Utilities Authority, had previously approved the contract.
