Cowley “Carl” Banks, Jr.
Services for Carl Banks, 66, will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Willow, Oklahoma, officiated by Rev. Ben Van Vacter. Burial will conclude in the Willow Cemetery, under the direction of People’s Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.
Carl was born on August 30, 1947, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Cowley and Dollie (Nowell) Banks.
He was called home on Monday, July 7, 2014, in Guymon, Oklahoma.
Carl graduated from Granite High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from Oklahoma State University in 1969.
Carl’s passion was farming, which he pursed even while teaching vocational agriculture, which led him to his professional career in banking.
Carl married Beverly Jean Thomas on September 19, 1970. To this union two children were born. Cowley Clint was born on September 7, 1972, and Patricia LaDawn on February 14, 1976.
Carl and Jacki Lewis were married on January 1, 1994.
On January 1, 2014, Carl retired from People’s State Bank in Lawton. He then joined his wife, Jacki, in Hough, north of Guymon, to enjoy his retirement.
Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, and spending time with his family.
He was a 32nd degree Master Mason, member of the Willow Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Morning Star United Methodist Church in Hough, Oklahoma. As a teenager, Carl was baptized in Fresno, California.
Carl is survived by his wife, Rev. Jacki Banks, of the home; son, Clint Banks and wife, Cindy, of Cordell, Oklahoma; daughter, Patti Johnston and husband, Carl, of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; stepson, Tommy Lewis and wife, Tiffiny, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four granddaughters, Allisson Johnston, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Aubbri Johnston, of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, Cloie and Carlie Banks, of Cordell, Oklahoma; brother, H.J. Banks, of West Palm Beach, Florida; sister, Jeanie Van Vacter and husband, Ben, of Mustang, Oklahoma; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Cowley and Dollie Banks.
