Don Vinson, 72, of Cordell, Oklahoma, was born on July 22, 1941, in Wheeler, Texas, to Clyde and Minnie (Duke) Vinson, and passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in Cordell, Oklahoma. Don was born in Wheeler and raised in the Texas Panhandle. He graduated from Borger High School in 1958. He attended Frank Phillips College on a music scholarship. Don married Donna Reed on December 10, 1979, in Amarillo, Texas. Don was a longtime journeyman machinist, retiring in 2003. He loved airplanes and flying. Don was a pilot, having a single engine pilot rating. He was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the rhythm guitar. Don was a former music director at the Grace Baptist Church. He also enjoyed writing songs. Don was an avid gulf fisherman. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Minnie Vinson, his wife, Donna, in 2010, one son, Victor Vinson and one daughter, Tina Reed. Survivors include one daughter: Lisa Vinson; four sons: Joel Vinson, James Reed and wife, Joann, of Canyon, Texas, Billy Reed of Amarillo, Texas, and Bobby Reed and wife, Debbie, of Cordell, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services were held for Don Vinson Thursday, May 29, 2014, at the Grace Baptist Church, Dill City, Oklahoma, with Rev. Jimmie EV Prickett, officiating and Rev. Rick Perkins assisting. Services were under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home, Cordell, Oklahoma.
