By State Representative Todd Russ.
Thousands of individuals attended a Monday rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol organized by a coalition of education organizations that included superintendents, teachers, parents and others. State funding for public education has not kept up with the rise in the number of students enrolling. House lawmakers worked hard last year to push for more funding in negotiations. We were unable to get all parties at the table to agree to a large increase. This year, House Republicans are pushing for a $125 million increase in K-12 school funding despite a budget shortfall. This contrasts with the governor’s proposal for a $50 million increase.
