Janet Sue Bonny, 72, of Elk City, Oklahoma, was born on July 14, 1941, in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Bryan Franklin Brooks and Joella Pearl (Shelton) Brooks Vaught. Janet passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, Oklahoma. She married her best friend and sweetheart, Jack L. Bonny in Bethel, Oklahoma, on July 14, 1961, and were blessed with two children from this union, Christy and Jackie. Janet taught quilting at the Western Oklahoma Area Vo-tech School for fourteen years. She loved quilting and attended quilting shows all over the country including Alaska and Hawaii. Janet was the co-founder of the Western Oklahoma Quilters Guild. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, crafts and listening to music. When she was not quilting, Janet loved spending time with her grandchildren, dogs and other pets and her family. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Elk City, Oklahoma. Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. Rev. Terry Koehn officiated. Services were under the direction of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Oklahoma Medical Research Fund-Alzheimer Fund in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 707, Elk City, Oklahoma 73648. Janet is survived by her husband, Jack of the home; one daughter, Christy Browning and her husband, Tommy of Greenville, Texas; one son, Jackie Bonny and his wife, Vicki of Yukon, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Eric Browning of Garland, Texas, Lynsey Peskuski of Dallas, Texas, Brittany Bonny and Brooke Bonny of Yukon, Oklahoma; one great-grandchild, Lucas Browning of Garland, Texas; one sister, Peggy Hill of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Bryan Brooks; mother, Joella Vaught and her step-father, Buster Vaught.
