Joyce Swinford, 88, resident of Cordell, Oklahoma, was born on April 30, 1925, in Rocky, Oklahoma, to Ora and Claudie (Tabor) Vermilion, and passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013, in Cordell, Oklahoma. Joyce was born in Rocky and raised in eastern Washita County. She attended Rocky High School. Joyce raised her family in Washita County. She had worked at the Red Barn Restaurant, Ervs and Nadines, for many years. Joyce had also worked at the Cordell Christian Home as a nurse’s aide, for many years. She loved listening to music. Joyce enjoyed traveling, sewing and watching golf on TV. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Claudie Vermilion, one daughter, Terrie Gayle Lesley in 2004 and one brother. Survivors include two daughters: Sharon Henry and husband, David, of Garland, Texas, and Rikki Patterson and husband, John (Pat), of Clinton, Oklahoma; three sons: Randy Crider of Springerville, Arizona, Bobby Crider and wife, Bobbie, of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Scotty Cook of Clinton, Oklahoma; one brother: Jimmy Vermilion and wife, Teresa, of Reno, Nevada; 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held for Joyce Swinford at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12,
2013, at the Musick-Varner Funeral Chapel, Cordell, Oklahoma. Burial followed in the Strickland Cemetery, Cordell, Oklahoma, under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home, Cordell, Oklahoma.
