Karl Kiehn, 96, resident of Cordell, Oklahoma, was born on December 20, 1916, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Henry and Selma (Ihle) Kiehn, and passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013, in Cordell, Oklahoma. Karl was born in Clinton. He was raised on land that his family homesteaded on the Washita River, until he was three years old. Karl’s family later moved to a farm, seven miles north east of Cordell. Karl married Fern Hollandsworth on May 5, 1940, at the Bessie Mennonite Brethren Church. Karl and Fern made their home in Cordell. Karl owned and operated the Kiehn Sinclair Service Station in Cordell, during the 1950’s. He was also the maintenance supervisor at the Cordell Memorial Hospital for several years. Karl worked as a heavy equipment operator during the construction of the Clinton Sherman Air Base. He had worked for Kiwash Electric Cooperative, where he assisted with building and setting poles to provide electricity to rural customers. He was employed with Kiwash Electric Cooperative from the mid 1960’s until he retired in the early 1980’s, to help care for his wife. Karl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cordell, where he was a music director, for many years. Karl was the past president and honorary board member of the Cordell Roundup Club. He was inducted into the Washita County Hall of Fame. Karl was the past superintendent of the Washita County Free Fair Horse Show. He was also an organizer and participant of the Cheyenne Arapaho Pioneer Celebration. Karl enjoyed farming, raising cattle and horses, and roping. He also enjoyed visiting at the coffee shop and the Co-op. Karl loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include one daughter: Phyllis Boothe and husband, Max, of Cordell, Oklahoma; one son: Bill Kiehn and wife, Billie, of Marlow, Oklahoma; one brother: Edwin Kiehn of Cordell, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; special dear friend: Nita Phipps; and a host of dear family and friends. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Selma Kiehn; his wife, Fern Kiehn in 1997, one sister, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law. Funeral services were held for Karl Kiehn at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, Cordell, Oklahma, with Reverand Terrell Romberg, officiating and Roy Dewees, assisting. Burial followed in the Lawnview Cemetery, Cordell, Oklahoma, under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home, Cordell, Oklahoma.
